The Last Airbender

So I watched The Last Airbender tonight, and I have not been able to stop ranting ever since I walked out of that theatre (though I wanted to walk out after 25 mins in). I went in knowing that it received many bad reviews but I just had to see it for myself, wondering how bad can the movie be when the series was so amazing!! So I was wrong, I WAS THAT bad. I have never seen a movie that horrendous before. So what was so horrible about this movie that it actually made me feel the need to rant about it in my blog, that I have not posted in since forever, so bad that I feel the need to rewatch the series at 2AM as a chaser?

1. Who the hell is Ong?!?!? If Shyamalan wanted to use the ACTUAL pronunciation that asian people would have called Aang then it wouldn't have been pronounced Ong ANYWAYS!!! So if you're not going to use the CORRECT asian pronunciation then why not use the ACTUAL pronunciation from the series?!??!! Moreover, if you are going to go so far as to changing the pronunciation of Aang's name in attempt to stay true to the asian character (I would assume) then why is the kid white? This further defeats the purpose of changing the pronunciation of Aang's name. Fail #1!!

2. The actor's are not in character at all!!! Aang is a very playful, fun, silly kid. In the movie, he is soooo serious. Katara in the series is very motherly, very mature, yet I do get this from the character in the movie. Sokka is a very funny and kind of stupid boy in the show but there isn't a hint of that in the movie. The way the characters were introduced in the movie does not give the audience a chance to really get to know them, to understand their personalities or even be intrigued to get to know them more. I found it very difficult to relate to the characters not only because the characters themselves seemed very flat but also because of how the story was told, which brings me to my next point.

3. The movie was crap because it was just a mash up of important events from the show. I found the transition from one event to the other very choppy and abrupt. By just mashing all the important events together like that it is difficult to develop the characters. Remember, they are kids, kids who journey together and learn from each other and their experiences. When you cut all that out I don't see a difference between the movie and just having a stagnant object in front of different settings. A prime example of what I'm trying to say is when Aang got all passionate and told the earth benders to revolt. While I was watching this scene I thought to myself, "this is totally unrealistic". Where did Aang's passion come from? This is an example where cutting out his journey to that event makes no sense and makes the movie seem choppy and abrupt.

4. This may seem like a minor detail, but.... WHAT IS UP WITH THAT WEAK scar on prince zuko's face?!?!?!?!?! At times I could HARDLY see it!!! I feel that the scar should NOT be underestimated. The scar is the single most visible thing that reminds prince zuko each and everyday that he has to catch the avatar to bring honor back to his family.

I honestly hope that they will do a reboot on this movie. It's such a great show, it deserves better, waaaaaaaaaaaay better than this. It was as if Shyamalan had never seen the show before. If he had, how could he do this show just injustice. I am truly sadden by how terrible this movie is. I shall rewatch the series to bring the happy times back!!!

I'm Broken

stressing over finals + stressing over requirements for grad school + gloomy day with the prof about an upcoming assignment that I don't know how to approach, making me feel dumb = broken Kim

I just want to hide under my covers and sleep forever and ever and ever. It's too bad I never have good dreams though or else that idea would sound super nice. Great. Both my reality and dream world suck.

school sucks, work sucks, assignment sucks, life sucks - you're right Cupchik, not missing anything there.

oinkoinkoink - make me feel better.
